A recent study conducted by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has revealed that consuming just one freshwater fish is the equivalent to drinking a months' worth of the potentially carcinogenic "forever chemicals," also known as PFAS.
This finding was based on data collected by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
PFAS have been detected in a variety of water sources on Long Island, and as a result, scientists suggest that freshwater fishing should be done for recreational purposes only, rather than for consumption.
Freshwater fishing is done in lakes and rivers, rather than in saltwater bays or the ocean.
