Residents in Long Beach are voicing their concerns over chlorine that has been used to treat the city's drinking water after E. coli was found in the system last month.             

The Long Beach Department of Public Works says it had to increase the amount of chlorine to flush out the water system.

Some residents say they believe that the chlorine is affecting their health.

"My tongue has been tingling for over a week now, so I have no feeling in my tongue," says resident Anne Marie Klosky.

Since the boil water order was lifted, Long Beach officials say they've been working closely with both the state and Nassau health departments -- which say that the water is safe.

Other Long Beach residents say they haven't realized that there is more chlorine in the water. 

The state Department of Health told News 12 that the public should have confidence that the chlorine level is not expected to cause health effects.

Long Beach officials say they'll likely go back to normal levels of chlorine in the system after next week's round of samples.
