Twenty-one people were arrested for allegedly selling vaping products to minors after Suffolk police say they visited 101 vape shops last weekend.
The results of the sting operation were announced by Suffolk officials Tuesday in Hauppauge.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone says vape companies are targeting kids, like cigarette companies did years ago.
"This should serve as a message to anyone who will peddle these addictive products…and sell them to our kids. You will be identified, you will be caught and you will be held accountable,” said Bellone.
The investigation was launched after the FDA recently called underage vaping an “epidemic.” The FDA has given the five biggest e-cigarette makers 60 days to present plans to stop underage use of their flavored products.
The 21 people arrested are facing misdemeanor charges.
