There are a few important lower Hudson Valley weather-related things to talk about for the rest of this week.
BITTER COLD: There will be two rounds of extremely cold-feeling air. The first is happening right now and lasting through early Wednesday morning. Wind chills will be close to, if not, slightly below zero at times at night and at best in the single digits Tuesday afternoon. Another round of even colder, longer-lasting Arctic air is possible from Saturday into next week, with actual high temperatures in the teens to mid-20s. Wind chills would be even lower and potentially dangerous. It is important to bundle up and limit time outdoors when it gets this cold.
NORTHERN LIGHTS OVERNIGHT? There is a chance to see aurora still overnight. That said, it is not recommend trying to go out and look for long periods of time in tonight's very cold-feeling air. This would be most visible through camera lenses. While conditions may be favorable to see aurora, it is far from a guarantee that you will see it and catch it at the right time. This sort of thing pretty much "pulses" off and on through the sky.
WEEKEND WINTER STORM? There is a storm to track for the Saturday night into Sunday timeframe. A strong, cold area of high pressure will try to suppress the storm south, but if that area of high pressure retreats north at all, this weekend storm can track more north and bring us more snow. This is something the News 12 Storm Watch Team will be watching closely throughout the week.
Other than that, the week overall is fairly quiet from rain or snow other than brief rain or snow shower on Wednesday evening. Temperatures will be most tolerable Wednesday and Thursday with high temperatures in the 30s.
Have a great night and stay warm!
