A wind advisory has been issued for Long Island starting Saturday at 11 a.m. with gusts of up to 50 mph possible.
News 12 Storm Watch Team meteorologist Sam Augeri says to expect the weekend to start off with heavy rain and a possible thunderstorm. It will transition to wet snow and sleet.
Rain, sleet and snow will continue into the early afternoon with increasing winds and cooler temperatures.
Augeri says most of Long Island will get a coating to an inch of snow with northern Nassau seeing up to 3 inches.
Wet spots could turn to ice by Sunday when it will be breezy and cold with highs near 37 degrees.
It will be warmer and sunny for the next workweek.
