Today is Day 6 of sub-freezing temperatures and the worst is yet to come. The coldest temperatures of the week and the season will be on Friday and into Saturday. Morning lows will be in the single digits, with wind chills as low as -10 to -18 degrees. Friday could be a record-breaking day if the high temperatures stays below 18 degrees and if it drops lower than 2 degrees at night.
The NWS has issued a cold weather advisory from midnight through 10 a.m. Friday.
Remember to dress for these cold temperatures and cover all exposed skin when going outside. Protect the pets and pipes as well. Frostbite can set in on exposed skin after 15-30 minutes in conditions like these.
There is some news on the weekend storm. As of today, the wider eastward trend on the track looks to carry the worst of the weather away from western Connecticut. It's a close call with the snow. Eastern parts of the state, out toward Cape Cod, may see some accumulation. But Fairfield and Litchfield counties, for now, are out of the accumulating snow zone.
It will be windy and cold. If the storm happens to shift a bit farther west, then there's a chance some of those snow showers may try to sneak on in here.
Temperatures will finally rise to near freezing early next week. The first week of February still looks cold, though. There is a chance of snow showers on Thursday and colder temperatures are set to return for the following weekend.
