Wednesday?s storm made a bad situation even worse for some Lake Ronkonkoma residents.
Some homeowners on Charles Court say the lake?s high water table and the area?s wetlands are to blame for their flooding problems. The town of Smithtown recently installed a 600-foot drainpipe to help relieve the flooding. However, one resident says she still can?t use her basement due to flooding since October.
Town officials say other solutions include lifting several homes near the lake up so they are the same level as other house or lowering the water table of the lake. Officials say both solutions would cost millions of dollars.
