All deli counters at Long Island Stop & Shops are back in business following a nationwide listeria outbreak that forced their closure this week.
A
national recall was issued for Boar’s Head meat on Friday due to the outbreak that caused two deaths in
New Jersey and Illinois.
Local Stop & Shop delis removed thousands of pounds of meat from their shelves and performed deep cleanings.
News 12 spoke to shoppers after the widespread cleanup efforts.
“It’s very concerning because a lot of people get deli meat and Boar’s Head is the top of the line, so I'm glad it is cleared up now,” said a shopper.
Stop & Shop issued a statement following the outbreak and recall.
It read in part, "Ensuring the safety of the products we sell is our highest priority, and our deli associates are ready to serve our communities."
