Stony Brook University now says Monday?s scare over a possible gunman on campus was a false alarm.
The university also says it will be making some changes after the situation. The school sent an alert to students Monday as it investigated reports of a possible gunman at the university. A cafeteria worker claimed someone was stealing food and flashed a gun after being confronted.
The university told students about the situation with text alerts and voice messages, telling them to check the school's Web site for more information. Some students say they never got an alert and others told News 12 Long Island that it took more than an hour for information to appear on the site.
The school says it will make sure it posts information on its Web site quicker and will also push to get more students registered for alerts. School officials say many students weren't registered and that is why they never received an alert. 'All-clear' after gunman scare at Stony Brook
