State troopers will be out in full force this holiday weekend to crack down on drinking and driving.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the number of drunk driving accidents double during summer months.
Jawanna Richardson says her husband died because of a drunk driver on the Southern State Parkway in 2014. She gave the troopers a pep talk Friday evening before they went to do their job.
"They were there for me, so I want to encourage them and motivate them, and I want them to know how important the work that they do is to us, to the community that we live in," Richardson says.
A big part of police enforcement includes a mobile command center for DWI checkpoints. It has a breathalyzer and blood testing capabilities.
State police say they will be visible on the roads.
They say in addition to looking out for those driving drunk, they will also pull over anyone handling their phone while driving.
