State police: Teen driver killed, 2 critical in Southern State Parkway crash
An 18-year-old woman from Lindenhurst was killed and her two passengers are in critical condition following a crash Saturday night on the Southern State Parkway.
A state police investigation found that Matthew Whyte, 27, of Laurelton was driving a Subaru eastbound in the center lane just west of Exit 32. A Honda Civic driven by Ciara Hare, 18, of Lindenhurst was in the right lane.
According to state police:
“The Subaru moved from the center lane into the right lane striking the side of the Honda causing both vehicles onto the right shoulder. The Subaru spun sideways and flipped on the driver’s side coming to rest against the brush and trees. The Honda struck an electric box and continued on and struck a traffic camera pole.”
Whyte was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Hare was pronounced dead at the scene. Her two passengers are in critical condition at Nassau University Medical Center.
Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call state police at 631-756-3300.
