4ds agoThe New York Court of Appeals will soon decide whether Clarkstown's term limits will stay or go.
A decision may come as early as this week or next, according to town elected officials who spoke to News 12. Earlier this week, an appellate court decided Clarkstown's 2014 term limit law was invalid because residents never voted on it.
"I'm hopeful that the Court of Appeals will look at this case and make the right decision," says Clarkstown Council Member Patrick Carroll. "The heart of this lawsuit is about the people who had a right to vote. That right to vote on this, it was a requirement, it wasn't offered.
And the law is operationally invalid," says Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann.
Hoehmann will make a decision on whether he will seek another term after the courts make a determination.
