Starlight Park is facing safety concerns after city data revealed an increase in crime. Seven major incidents have been reported this year, compared to four last year.
However, the data doesn't capture events like shootings and bodies found earlier this year.
Council Member Rafael Salamanca says the park’s two closed entrances are part of an effort to improve accessibility.
He is working with police to add lighting and cameras to make the park safer for visitors. Many residents say they feel safe during the day but avoid the park at night.
The Parks Department says it doesn’t have a firm timeline on when the accessibility upgrades will be complete.
