Prayers
for Ukraine held at St. Vladimir’s as Russia’s nuclear forces go on high
alert
Parishioners
arrived at St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Catholic Church on Sunday morning to pray
for peace in their homeland.
As
Russian forces continue their invasion of Ukraine, many on Long Island are
worried about their families and friends. Early Sunday morning, Russian
president Vladimir Putin ordered Russian nuclear forces to be put on high alert
in response to severe economic sanctions ordered by the West.
During
Sunday Mass, Father Wasyl Hrynkiw prayed for the
protection of the people of Ukraine.
“We
offer this liturgy for the salvation for Ukraine…and
for the protection of God for the innocent people who are killed by Russian
soldiers – children, mothers, elderly who are brutally killed,”
prayed Father Hrynkiw.
Parishioner
Vasil Sydork tells News 12 the only thing they can do is show their
support.
Uniondale
resident John Zarudsky says he hopes Ukraine can survive the Russian
invasion.
“We’re
proud of the nation,” says Zarudsky.
