The St. James community is outraged over a menorah vandalism that police are investigating as a hate crime.
Police say the menorah was knocked down and mangled before 4 a.m. Sunday along Route 25A. Officials say the fact that a nearby nativity display remained untouched means the crime may have been driven by hate. Residents say this is the first time in 15 years they?ve dealt with the destruction of the menorah.
Neighbors worked to restore the Hanukkah display hours after the vandalism. They say hate has no home in St. James during the holidays.
