NEW AT 5PM: News 12's updated call on snow totals for Sunday nor'easter calls for up to three inches of snow over the East End, with far less west.
The storm's track can still shift, and a directional change of 20 to 50 miles would drastically impact snow totals. But as of Thursday afternoon, News 12 is forecasting a trace to one inch of snow in Nassau County and western Suffolk County, but up to 3 inches on the East End.
Strong winds can still be a factor, regardless of how much snow Long Island gets on Sunday, with 20 to 45 mph gusts possible. There is also a chance for minor coastal flooding and beach erosion, which is exacerbated by Sunday's full moon. The storm is forecast to begin around 3 a.m. Sunday and end later that day around 10 p.m.
The Island is also under a "cold weather advisory" through 10 a.m. Friday. Wind chills are around -5 to -15 degrees. A cold weather advisory is issued by the National Weather Service when wind chills are expected to be between -5 degrees and -19 degrees within 24 hours.
