Our coldest air of the season continues on the island tonight as dangerous cold settles in.
An extreme cold warning is in effect for Nassau and Suffolk counties until Sunday 1 p.m.
A wind advisory for Nassau and Suffolk counties will be in effect until midnight tonight. Wind gusts will range from 30 to 50 MPH. Following midnight, the wind gusts will weaken, ranging from 20 to 30 MPH through Sunday.
The snow has ended out east. Our latest snowfall reports from the National Weather Service show significant snow had fallen across the Twin Forks. From two inches of snowfall to more than half a foot of snow in Montauk. Below is the latest report we have from the snow on Saturday.
Overnight's low temperatures are near 0, but with wind gusts of around 30mph, it will feel like -15°F if not even colder.
Sunday is sunny, breezy, and very cold. Wind chills in the morning are at least -10F below zero and will remain near 0F for most of the day. High temperatures are in the teens.
Monday morning will also have wind chills well below zero, but conditions improve on Tuesday with high temperatures returning to the mid 30s. A few snow showers are possible on Wednesday & we are keeping an eye on a storm for Presidents' Weekend, although the risk is currently low.
