Residents in Spring Valley were on high alert this weekend after a fatal shooting that also left a person injured, and a stabbing that sent a person to the hospital.
In the
stabbing incident, authorities say a person was found bleeding from deep cuts at 156 North Main St. Saturday just after 4 a.m.
The victim was rushed to Westchester Medical Center. Their condition was still unknown as of Sunday night.
The events that led to the stabbing were not immediately clear.
Later on the day, the Spring Hill Ambulance Corps say they were called to 2 Dutch Lane just after 5 p.m. for a report about a gunshot-related wound.
A man in his 20s was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The other victim was listed in stable condition as of Sunday night.
Another shooting incident occurred Saturday on Robert Pitt Drive. Police say they saw numerous shell casings in a parking lot.
Further investigation revealed that bullets had struck several nearby apartments and an unoccupied vehicle. No injuries were reported.
The violent incidents left resident uneasy.
"That's the end of the world coming up, that's terrible," said Juliet Gregory. "It is very sad...it worries me, my family, children, grandkids, everybody. It affects everyone."
"I feel sad and mad, because it wasn't like that before. We just want to know what's going on. It has to be stopped. The government should do more to stop the selling of the guns in these streets," said Louis Jean-Baptiste.
