Long Islanders on the South Shore are prepping for Henri, which
is expected to impact the region on Sunday.
At Jones Beach, state parks workers rolled out heavy equipment to build a wall of sand along the shoreline.
"We're concerned about storm surge, inundation, flooding," says George Gorman, of the NYS Parks Department. "To protect the infrastructure, to protect the boardwalk, the facility buildings. We're placing sandbags around the buildings and on the beach front we're going to removing all the signs, the trash cans, lifeguard equipment."
Major construction is underway on Niami Street in Seaford to fix what residents say is a road prone to flooding. They say flooding gets so bad they feel like hostages in their own homes every time a storm hits.
Workers are raising the road and fixing the drainage system.
The work won't be done in time for Henri, so homeowners like June Cosella, of Seaford, hope the storm doesn't hit the area.
"I'm hoping it goes out east into the ocean and that'll be it," Cosella says.
Another road that deals with flooding is Bayview Avenue East in Lindenhurst. Residents there had there homes destroyed in Sandy.
Joanne Dougherty says Sandy flooded her house with 4 feet of water. She's hoping history won't repeat itself with Henri.
"I'm nervous, I'm very nervous," says Dougherty.
