Two NYPD officers from Long Island were shot while responding to a domestic violence call in Queens Tuesday afternoon, according to sources.
One of the officers was shot in the leg, and the other in the hand. They returned fire and killed the shooter.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio praised the officers for putting themselves in harm's way while trying to protect a woman in danger.
Sources say the officers are being identified as Suffolk County resident Christopher Wells and Nassau County resident Joseph Murphy.
