Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray will run for Nassau district attorney in the fall, according to News 12 sources.

Murray, a Republican, would be vying for the position left vacant by Democrat Kathleen Rice, who was elected to Congress last year.

When asked about her future prospects regarding the office, Murray told News 12, "Stay tuned. You'll learn in very, very short order."

Some political analysts told News 12 that they believe Murray is a very strong candidate. They say she has consistently had the best favorability ratings in the polls in the Town of Hempstead for close to 10 years.

Nassau Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs took a shot at Murray, saying to News 12, "With public corruption a major issue in Nassau County and Kate's attachment to the Republican machine, electing her DA would be akin to putting the fox in charge of the chicken coop."

Madeline Singas, a former Rice bureau chief, is currently serving as the acting district attorney. She is expected to be the Democratic nominee for the post.
