Neighbors in a Dix Hills neighborhood are trying to find help for dozens of cats that they say were left behind after a homeowner was evicted.

Residents on Cascade Court say the cats began appearing around the neighborhood about three weeks ago. They estimate at least 30 cats are now roaming the block.

“We just want to get them help. This has become a full-time job for about three of the households here,” said Dix Hills resident Renee Novotny. “We are taking turns feeding them. We are on the phone all day trying to get help.”

Novotny says the cats are friendly and that neighbors simply want to get them the care they need.

The Suffolk County SPCA told News 12 that the situation is an active investigation and declined to comment further.

News 12 has also reached out to the Town of Huntington and is waiting for a response.
