The drug store's Hicksville location was filled with shoppers looking for very last-minute gifts or just looking for some place to kill some time.Howard Turk, a cab driver on the Island, said he was very pleased to be working on Christmas. He said he was busy driving passengers to open stores, restaurants and other destinations. The holiday didn't mean a day off for police officers, firefighters and 911 operators either.Elaine Pearsall, a 911 operator for Nassau County, said there were fewer calls than normal on Christmas. She said the phones still needed to be staffed though and that she was glad to be manning the phones with great group of people.
