This weekend is the unofficial start to summer, and in one hopping South Shore town, there is a construction project that may cause some headaches for beachgoers.
A popular parking lot for people who frequent Fire Island, the most southern part of the Maple Avenue Marina, is torn up.
Some are now concerned that the construction project that started months ago will cause problems for the crowds that will descend on this area in just a few days.
Dave Anderson, with the Fire Island Ferries, leases space for their freight operations to get goods over to the barrier island.
Anderson says they were surprised by the project.
The Fire Island Ferries is working with Saltaire village to temporarily use its neighboring space, but come this busy holiday weekend, it says it will have to be out.
“Theres a limited window of opportunity because you have go to work in the water, around boating season, but the DEC has to issue permits, so its not an easy thing to accomplish," says Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
