An East Islip car dealer says a snowplow damaged cars in his lot Saturday morning in an incident caught on surveillance cameras.
Mike Sheehan, of A No. 1 Autos, says snow, ice and street debris were hauled onto his lot of cars during three passes along Sunrise Highway. The damage to at least seven cars cost him $5,000 after his insurance deductible.
He says the video also appears to show a customer having to duck and cover from being struck by debris.
"My main concern is one day someone is going to get really hurt or maybe even killed," says Sheehan.
Sheehan says snowplows have been damaging cars in the lot for 10 years. He is hoping the state Department of Transportation will reimburse him for the damages incurred on Saturday.
The state DOT issued a written statement saying that it was "looking into the matter." Sheehan says a claims rep from the DOT told him they want to study video of the snowplow incidents in an effort to pinpoint the driver.
