UPDATE: The dense fog advisory has been cancelled at 11 a.m. Low visibility will be around at times, but not as dense as it was before 11 a.m.
Be on the lookout for several rounds of showers and downpours this Monday as we deal with a spring-like storm system moving into the Hudson Valley.
Gusty winds will increase towards 40-50 mph later today, and a wind advisory is in effect for south Westchester County, as well as East Dutchess and West Ulster counties.
Damaging gusts could take down tree limbs, old and weak trees and cause power issues along the way. Loose items, such as garbage can lids and kids' toys could be tossed around if not secured down. Rainfall amounts could top at 1 to 1.5" before the system is done with us. Localized flooding will be an issue, especially in low-lying areas, such as south Westchester County's numerous parkways.
Strong to severe storms are possible with those damaging wind gusts. Other threats, such as hail and tornadoes, are not a concern with the storm set up for today. The storm system will move out after the overnight hours, with the winds slowly backing down heading into Tuesday. As the system moves away, colder air will rush in and could mix in some snowflakes with the rain as the temps drop.
Tuesday is St. Patrick's Day and many events/parades will be going on throughout the day. While the rain gear won't be needed anymore, you will have to wear an extra layer or two. That is because the breezy winds will make the temps feel chilly. Many spots could have temps feeling into the 30s.
Wednesday is the coldest day of the week, with temps only topping in to the upper 30s. Temperatures will bounce back as we go through the rest of the work week.
Spring officially arrives this Friday, at 10:46 a.m., when the Vernal Equinox occurs. Spring showers move in for the late day hours and continue to linger through the weekend ahead.
