A 75-year-old Smithtown man is dead after he was crushed by a tree in his front yard Thursday.
Police say Charles Fiedler was working on his Oakfield Drive property with his son when the accident happened. According to investigators, the pair was cutting up a 60-foot-tall tree that had been taken down earlier in the day when the tree rolled over and pinned Fiedler to the ground.
Fiedler?s son and neighbors tried to remove the tree, which is 19 inches in diameter. Fiedler was rushed to St. Catherine?s Medical Center, but police say it was too late.
