Highway crews worked through the night to remove snow in Suffolk County.

The Town of Smithtown Highway Department cleared snow and ice from the downtown business districts in the hamlets of Kings Park and Smithtown.

The department says the operation is critical, especially for pedestrians to be able to walk on the sidewalk.

Workers will be back on the job Friday night too, this time in St. James, according to town officials.

That work is expected to begin at 10 p.m. and will include some road closures.
