Smithtown adult care facility employee accused of assaulting resident with Down syndrome

Police were contacted by the facility the following day after finding the victim with cuts and bruises.

An employee of the Developmental Disabilities Institute in Smithtown was arrested Wednesday for assaulting a resident with Down syndrome, according to police.
Detectives say surveillance video shows Raliek Leonard pushing the man Monday, causing him to hit his head.
Police were contacted by the facility the following day after finding the victim with cuts and bruises.
The facility says Leonard has since been suspended.
