The mother of a two-year boy is outraged Wednesday after a local preschool refused to refund her tuition when she discovered the school was not peanut free.
Donna Townbridge, of Shirley, says she enrolled her son Mason at the Montessori Children of Port Jefferson school. Townbridge says she told the owner of the school that her son had a severe peanut allergy. She says the owner told her to make sure to bring an EpiPen the day of orientation.
Townbridge says she asked the owner at orientation several questions about the school's ability to accommodate Mason's allergy. That's when Townbridge says the owner told her Montessori is not a peanut-free facility. She was then told by the owner that maybe Montessori was not the school for Mason.
Townbridge asked for her $230 tuition back, but says the owner refused.
"That to me is wrong that you're suggesting my child not come to your school anymore, but you won't refund me the money that I paid for him to go there," says Townbridge.
Montessori's owner declined a request to comment and said her lawyer would be in contact with News 12.
Townbridge says she is planning to take legal action.
