Background: Lechmanski, 30, is making her first bid for office. Lechmanski is cross-endorsed and is running on the Republican and Democratic lines. She has been a clerk in the Board of Assessors office for more than a year and is seeking the open spot in the three-assessor office created by the retirement in March of Barbara Jean Ianfolla. Lechmanski previously worked as a librarian in the technical services department of the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton. She earned an associate's in liberal arts from Suffolk County Community College and a bachelor's in business management from Stony Brook University. She is on the board of the Friends of the Shelter Island Public Library. She is married.
Issues: Lechmanski said she will work hard to learn how to do the full revaluation of island properties the Shelter Island assessor's office conducts each year. She has completed a course on property tax exemptions and said she will continue taking state courses to become a certified assessor. "I hope I can keep up to the same standards as my predecessors, make sure exemptions are administered in the best way and run the office in a way that's as organized and well put-together," she said.
