A new place of peace is now open in Suffolk County.

The Town of Islip unveiled their first-ever Serenity Gardens on Thursday at Brookwood Hall on Irish Lane in East Islip.

The park is split into four sections and caters to people with Alzheimer’s and dementia, those with developmental disabilities, seniors, veterans and individuals with vision or hearing impairments.

Presented by the town’s Parks Foundation, the area used to be an unused space of overgrown forest vegetation and now can be for all community members to use and enjoy.

"It is a place of peace and respite and serenity quite frankly, and that's how it got its name," Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter said.

“It's for anyone to come and sit and relax and chill," Carpenter continued.
