Long Island officials are calling on Gov. Kathy Hochul and state legislators to invest move in repairs and replace deteriorating bridges and highways in the area.
The New York State Department of Transportation reported Thursday that nine Long Island bridges are listed as being in poor condition.
Three of those bridges are in Nassau County and the rest are in Suffolk County.
"Look at these roads when everybody is driving on the expressways," says state Sen. Mario Mattera, who represents Smithtown. "This is unacceptable to all of us. Long Islanders deserve better. We do not receive our fair share."
State legislators are proposing adding $2 billion more in funding for the DOT.
