Drones continue to be seen across the East Coast and in Brooklyn. Although the federal government has told Americans that the drones do not pose a threat to public safety at the moment, this answer is not sitting right with many Brooklyn residents and elected officials.
Sen. Chuck Schumer also took it to X, calling on Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to "deploy special drone detection tech" across New York and in New Jersey.
He wants the federal government to use the Robin system which he says can give a more comprehensive, overview of the drones, instead of just linear data.
State and local law enforcement do not, at the moment, have the power to detect drones. That power is currently in the hands of the federal government. Schumer says he wants that changed.
Gov. Kathy Hochul also says the federal government needs to do more, as she announced Sunday a new detection system is being deployed across the state. She described it as a state-of-the-art technology that will help law enforcement as they investigate.
