Extra money in the pocket can go a long way this time of year. Holiday tipping provides a huge boost to those who provide services year-round.

"One of the important things are to recognize who it is that supporting your family outside of the immediate home," said Marshal Cohen, Chief Retail Analyst with Circana.

While tipping is not required, many feel it is the right thing to do and according to Cohen there are some ways to make it manageable.

"The rule of thumb is one service cost," he said.

If you are tipping on a regular basis, you do not have to overdo it in December. According to Cohen, giving between $25 and $50 is more than enough and you don't need to give it to everyone.

"When you are tipping a service and there's a group of people they pool that tip, so it's not as if you have to tip every individual."

Making a list of who you would like to give to in advance can help you stay on track with your tips and never underestimate the appreciation you can show with a homemade thank you.
