A Selden man is set to be arraigned on animal cruelty charges today for severely beating his dog, Suffolk County police say.
Police say Daniel Keelan brought his chocolate lab named Coco to an animal hospital Wednesday, claiming it had been hit by a car.
Employees at the office say Coco’s injuries did not show signs of being hit by a car, and called police.
Police says their investigation found that Keelan threw the dog against a wall and punched and kicked it in front of his two children.
The dog broke a femur, tibia and multiple ribs but is recovering at the hospital.
Police say they removed another dog from the house when they arrested Keelan.
Keelan is facing charges of aggravated animal cruelty and endangering the welfare of a child.
