Area airports and train stations have implemented heightened security measures in response to attempted terror attacks in the United Kingdom.
Long Island travelers at LaGuardia Airport in Queens said they were aware of this past weekend's incidents, for which an eighth person was arrested Monday.
"It definitely does scare me," Nicole Allivayef of Great Neck said. However, she added, "There's nothing really I can do about it."
Although the federal terror-alert level remained unchanged and the government acknowledged no specific threats to Long Island or other parts of the U.S., there was a noticeable increase in police and military presence at Long Island Rail Road train stations and LaGuardia Airport.
Port Authority officials asked travelers to show up even earlier for their flights this holiday week, as heightened security measures could equate to longer wait times at check-in.
