It was a wild Memorial Day weekend at the Seaside Heights boardwalk.
Authorities say that officers have arrested 73 people for rowdy behavior, including 52 adults and 21 juveniles.
The boardwalk has been busy, especially combined with the start of the summer season, prom weekends and warmer weather. Teens and people in their 20s have swarmed to the boardwalk.
Three people were victims of stabbings, according to police. The latest was at 12 a.m. Monday, when an 18-year-old was stabbed at Kearny Avenue and Ocean Terrace.
Police say a 21-year-old was stabbed in the back at Webster Avenue around 8 p.m. Saturday.
On Sunday, at 6:45 p.m., police say a 22-year-old was stabbed in the hip while in the area of Sherman Avenue and Ocean Terrace.
No arrests have been made in the stabbings. The victims declined to cooperate with police, according to officials.
The crowds have been large on Monday. Locals, who call Seaside Heights home, say they’re always concerned these types of weekends ruin the reputation of Seaside Heights.
“It always escalates around this weekend but then it gets really good,” said a Toms River woman, walking with her husband. “It just seems like all these things and the prom and then after that, it’s more family. It’s more family-oriented.”
Officials say they knew this weekend might be a problem, so they were prepared with help from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office and SWAT team, along with Brick police.
Police say Seaside Heights has seen 100,000 visitors this weekend.
