The search has been called off for a missing swimmer in Long Beach.
The Coast Guard says around 10 p.m. Sunday people in Long Beach reported a man entered the water near Franklin Boulevard. The man entered the water despite the warnings about the outgoing tide and a rip current in the area.
Officials say about 10 minutes later, people couldn't see him anymore and that is when rescuers came in.
Long Beach lifeguards and police, the Coast Guard, Nassau County officers and four local fire departments all responded and searched on both the water and in the air.
The search came up empty and has since been called off.
