A Seaford mother's act of kindness is spreading across Long Island.
Mary Kate Tischler started “The Sharing Table” outside her home after reading about a woman in Michigan who was doing the same thing.
The “take what you can, leave what you can” system has been helping those who are in need this holiday season during a pandemic.
Each day, the table is filled with nonperishable foods and toiletries while she goes about her day.
Tischler’s kindness has led to other tables popping up in at least four other Long Island communities.
Judy Wichter, of Bethpage, heard about The Sharing Table from a Facebook group Tischler started. She says she has been wanting to do something like this for a while now.
"And I said, ‘That's it. I'm going to stop thinking about it and let's just do it,'" she said.
According to the Facebook page, the locations on Long Island can be found at:
  •  Seaford Sharing Table: 2370 Narraganset Ave.
  •  Bethpage Sharing Table: 16 Helena Ave.
  •  Wantagh Sharing Table: 1195 Flower Lane
  •  St. James Sharing Table: 169 Northern Blvd.
