A security guard at Roosevelt High School was arrested Wednesday after police say he recorded a student who was in the bathroom and then posted it on social media.
According to Nassau County police, 24-year-old Daniel Williams, of North Babylon, went into the boys bathroom inside the school Tuesday morning and took video of a 16-year-old male student using the facility at the time. Williams then allegedly made that video public via the app Snapchat.
Detective Lt. Richard LeBrun says the video was a 3-10-second clip in which the victim could clearly be identified. Snapchat videos disappear after a certain amount of time, but in this case, LeBrun says the video was captured and saved. It's now in the hands of Nassau detectives.
School administrators notified police immediately upon learning about the incident. The district's interim superintendent released a statement on the matter.
"The security guard is administratively reassigned to home with pay, meaning he is not to report to work and may not enter school grounds during period of reassignment unless he receives written approval," the statement reads.
Meanwhile, parents say they are disgusted by the allegations against a man who was supposed to be protecting students at the school.
Williams is charged with unlawful surveillance and endangering the welfare of a child. He was released on a desk appearance ticket and is due back in court April 11.
