On Oct. 28, 2012, coastal emergency plans were being put in place, with subway closings and evacuations announced.
The storm made landfall on Oct. 29.
Sandy wiped away Long Island coastlines, flooded thousands of homes, and moved boats and cars blocks away.
Some communities are still recovering from the storm.
