New York state legislation could allow schools to cancel class on 'extreme heat’ days
9ds agoMembers of the Sachem community went before the school board one week before the district’s new budget goes to a vote.
The new budget includes a 1.92% tax levy increase. The spending plan would have staff cuts, resulting in larger class sizes and reduced extra-curricular activities.
Last month, voters rejected a budget with a 4.87% tax levy increase, which would have pierced the tax cap.
The new budget remains within the tax cap, and would only require a simple majority to pass.
The vote will be held on Tuesday, June 18.
