Police arrested a Rye Brook couple on prostitution charges, claiming that the husband was selling his wife for sex.
Investigators say Richard Salvatore, 45, placed an ad on the popular Web site Craigslist, pimping his 23-year-old wife, Rachel Grome. The page featured provocative pictures of Grome, who was described as a college student seeking to make extra money for tuition.
The couple's neighbors on Roanoke Avenue say on several occasions they saw different cars going in and out of Salvatore's driveway. After receiving several complaints about the couple, police sent an undercover officer into the home, who busted them.
"I think it's a little disgusting and uncalled for in this quiet area," says neighbor Ben Thomas.
Police say it is possible Salvatore, who worked at an auto body shop, took to extreme measures because he and his wife were in a difficult financial situation.
Salvatore and Grome have been released on $500 bail. They are expected to appear in court April 1.
