Thousands of Long Islanders laced up their running shoes and pounded the pavement this morning for a race that has become a North Shore tradition.

The 36th annual Cow Harbor 10K race was held today in Northport.

Racers supported the Special Olympics, the Veterans' Administration and a local food pantry during this year's run.

The race was extra memorable for one runner, who crossed the finish line to find her boyfriend waiting down on one knee. Dylan Vandewalle, of Yaphank, asked Danielle Fox for her hand in marriage today, and she said yes despite feeling a bit ill after completing the course.
