Hospitals across New York state need more help in the fight against a growing number of RSV cases, according to Sen. Chuck Schumer.
The Senate majority leader is calling on the federal government to send doctors, nurses and other medical staff to the state to help combat the uptick.
He's also urging federal officials to allow medical providers from neighboring states, like Pennsylvania, to step-in and help.
Doctors say that cases of RSV, a respiratory virus that typically causes mild cold-like symptoms, typically spike in December and January. Case numbers have already surpassed previous highs in just the first week of the month.
