Parents and students in Roosevelt are expressing outrage after learning of programs that will be cut as the school district adopts a contingency budget.
Many say the kids are the ones who suffer as sports and other programs are dropped. The school is also slashing kindergarten to a half-day program and eliminating the pre-K program entirely. Twenty-seven teacher and teacher?s aide positions will also be cut. Teacher's Union President Kevin O?Connor says the teacher cuts are unnecessary and the district should first let go of administrators and consultants. Others say the superintendent and his "cronies" must stop spending unnecessarily.
School officials say residents knew the consequences of rejecting the proposed budget on two separate occasions. They say the cuts are painful, but necessary.
