Police believe a murder-suicide inside a North Lawrence Taco Bell was sparked by a fight over a woman.

Brooklyn resident Giovanni Cruz, 24, shot and killed Kevin Cruz Wednesday night, according to police. The victim, who was killed at work, had recently started dating Giovanni Cruz?s ex-girlfriend. The two men are not related.

?When the victim, Kevin Cruz, saw the suspect enter the restaurant, he recognized who he was and that trouble was about to erupt,? said Nassau Police Officer Michael Fleming. ?A short struggle took place behind the counter. Several shots were fired.?

Authorities said Giovanni Cruz then fled the scene before turning the gun on himself. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, according to police.

Family members of both the victim and the suspect could not be reached for comment.
