The Rockville Centre police commissioner is planning to retire after his contract expires.
The Village says it will not renew the contract of Commissioner Charles Gennario after it expires on March 31.
Gennario has been the commissioner for the past eight years.
The announcement comes after a tumultuous few weeks for the police department. Earlier this month, Rockville Centre Officer Christopher Stafford was arrested and suspended after allegedly secretly recording a sexual encounter in his bedroom.
Four days earlier, Officer Anthony Federico was acquitted of police brutality stemming from an arrest he made in a 2016 bar fight.
