Riverhead police have issued an advisory to drivers about wind and drifting snow.
They say roadways throughout the north end of the township, including Sound Avenue, are subject to snowdrifts and are impassible.
News 12 is told many cars are stuck or have been stuck.
Officials are asking drivers to stay off the roads until conditions clear up.
