The family of a Riverhead teen struck by a hit-and-run driver on New Year's Eve is encouraged by early signs of recovery Tuesday.
Brayden Kreuger, 17, remains at the surgical intensive care unit at Stony Brook Hospital for treatment. The Riverhead High School 10th-grader was hit by a car on Mill Road around 9:30 p.m. while riding his bicycle home from work. Family members say Kreuger suffered about 12 fractures in his face and a critical head injury. He was placed on a ventilator for a day.
Although the road to recovery is long, family members are thrilled by Kreuger's ability to speak and breathe on his own. Anyone with information on the hit-and-run incident is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500 or Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
